about

'Bullingdon Death Clause in Plain Bob Minor' starts with the selection of a key phrase from a speech given by the UK Prime Minister, early in the COVID-19 pandemic. The phrase is seemingly ingested by a clockwork device, that mangles it, systematically, according to the change-ringing method Plain Bob Minor. The semi-tuneful, nonsense rhetoric survives a period of chaos (called up by a hectoring House Whip*) but eventually runs aground in a melancholy drone.

The song is from the album 'Harmiumm', a personal, emotionally-driven work combining music with media coverage, political rhetoric and commentary collected between 2019 and 2021, during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

As far as real events are concerned, 'Harmiumm' is more satire than documentary. It draws on an Anglo-European cultural imaginary, proposing a dark poetic suited to a 21st-century riven by crises, and a UK mired in nostalgia.

*The Whip is 'Rowntree', played by Robert Swann for the 1968 film 'If....' Lindsay Anderson's satire on the English class system as perpetuated via a boys' public school.
